Mudgee Rugby Club has teams in the under 7 (turn 7 or less in the current year), under 9 (turn 8 or 9 in the current year) and under 11 (turn 10 or 11 in the current year) age groups. Teams within these age groups play one another each Saturday morning during the season. From time to time the games may take place on Friday after school, followed by a family BBQ. Teams from each age group attend a number of Gala Days around the Central West. These are usually held on Sundays. The emphasis in “Subbies” is on having fun and the development of skills.
Mudgee Rugby Club enters teams in the Central West Junior Rugby competitions in the under 13, under 15 and under 17 age groups. If numbers permit we may enter more than one team in an age group. (e.g. in 2017 we entered two teams in the under 13 age division). The emphasis in the Juniors is on having fun and the development of skills in a competitive environment.
Mudgee Rugby Club is entering two senior grades in the 2nd Tier Central West competition, in 2018.
The Mudgee Wombats will be entering a women’s team in the Central West Competition in 2018. The women made the grand final in their first year in the competition in 2016 and reached the finals in 2017.
The “Old Muds” are an active group of ageing players who meet irrregularly at the premises of the club’s major sponsor (Oriental Hotel) to discuss possible games and recall the glory of days gone by. Every now and then they actually play a game to boost the store of heroic deeds discussed at the pub and to remind themselves (and their bodies) that they shouldn’t hastily plan any more games too soon.
