LINDFIELD AND SOUTHERN DISTRICTS IN SEVENS HEAVEN!
Lindfield Rugby Club upset the favourites for the 2019 Bowdens Silver Mudgee Rugby Sevens title, Timberwolves, in an exciting and closely contested final at Glen Willow on Saturday afternoon. The women’s final saw the Southern Districts Rebelettes convincingly down the Manly Marlins by 31 – 5. The Lady Batties almost edged out Manly to make the final but finished a creditable 3rd in the Women’s competition. The playoff for 3rd and 4th in the men’s competition became a boat race after both teams decided they had had enough for the day. Consequently Newcastle Seamen defeated Knees Up Worldwide to take 3rd and 4th respectively. The Men In Pink, a local Mudgee team led by Jack Fraser, won the prize for the best dressed team and a member of the Southern District Rebelettes was named player of the tournament. It was another great day of exciting running rugby and ran extremely smoothly thanks to the many volunteers that helped out on the day. Particular thanks go to Tournament Co-ordinator, Ros Lee and Club President, Luke Humphreys who both worked tirelessly to make the day a success. Well done to all!
